Yesterday evening saw the start of my live goldwork embroidery course “Gothic Pansy“. Together with a group of international students, we covered the course outline and did a round of introductions before I showed them how to set up a traditional slate frame. Since the next lesson isn’t until the 18th of October, you still have time to join! The eight lessons are spread over four months so that you have plenty of time to catch up when life gets in the way. We also avoid the weekends when the clocks change and the holidays at the end of the year. The course is included with monthly and yearly memberships. That means you pay only €60 for the full course; it’s even cheaper with a yearly membership!

The classes for my goldwork embroidery course run from 18:00h to 20:30h Munich time on Sundays. This translates to 17:00h-19:30h for London, 12:00h-14:30h for New York and 9:00h-11:30h for Los Angeles. As we avoid the weekends when the clocks change, these times stay the same until the end of the course in January 2027. Can’t make these hours? No worries! I record the Zoom meetings and upload them to the course in the membership section of my website. Since the Zoom class is already relatively late on Sunday evening for me, I convert and upload the several hours of video to my platform, Alugha, the next day. All videos come with automatically transcribed English subtitles that you can turn on or off.

For me as a teacher, the best part of a live goldwork embroidery course is seeing how differently the same design can turn out. At least two people will adapt the design so it looks like a traditional religious orphrey. That’s easy to do by swapping the flower for a small religious symbol. And because traditional gold thread is getting scarce in some parts of the world, one student will tackle the design using alternative materials. She has spent a lot of time researching online to compare the original threads with the alternatives available to her locally. So, join us if you are curious to see how the designs turn out!
