Setting up a slate frame for Medieval Goldwork Embroidery
Here are two video tutorials on how to set up a professional slate frame. I prefer students to use a slate frame when they stitch one of my goldwork designs. Knowing that your fabric will stay put throughout your project is one less thing you have to worry about when you are learning a new embroidery technique!
The above video shows you how to prepare your slate frame with a piece of linen. The video below also starts with sewing a piece of linen onto the slate frame. However, it then continues to show you how to add a piece of silk on top of the linen. Please don’t hesitate to email me (info[at]jessicagrimm.com) with any questions!
