Fancy Golden and Silken Triangles
This project teaches you how to recreate one of these fancy orphrey borders that use string padding to create a nice texture. This particular border is created by alternating coloured silks and gold threads. The idea comes from an orphrey on a chasuble kept at the Domschatz Fritzlar.
Burden Stitch Christmas Ornaments
Burden Stitch can be found in many late-medieval embroideries. It is always worked with a stiff non-pierceable thread (i.e. a metal thread) and silk. The stitch creates a lovely, textured surface with a bit of bling.

Bargello Chasuble
The pattern has been chartered from an 18th century Tuscan chasuble kept in the
Museo d’Arte Sacra in San Gimignano in Italy. I’ve charted the pattern as a cross-stitch pattern, but the original is worked in Gobelin stitch over four canvas threads.
Pearl-edged Nimbus
This project teaches you how to apply the white string padding that is often found
under beading with freshwater pearls. It is often the only thing that remains of the original beading. The design comes from an orphrey on a chasuble cross kept at the Dommuseum Frankfurt.

A Dutch Column from Cologne
Layering goldwork was very common in the late-medieval period. The embroiderer
literally pierced the gold with his needle and his silk to achieve this. You will be surprised how well your
materials hold up to this ‘abuse’. The effects achieved are very well suited for modern goldwork pieces!
Fancy Goldwork Border
This project teaches you how to recreate one of these fancy orphrey panel
borders that use string padding to create a nice texture. This particular border is created with gold threads and silk gimp. The idea comes from an orphrey on a cope kept at the Dommuseum Frankfurt.
